Should i dye my hair myself?

about a month and two weeks ago i got my hair done at a hair salon. i normally get highlights to maintain a light blonde. but last time i went red, a dark burgundy red. it has faded, but is still red. its a bit lighter and some blonde spots show through, it kind of looks like i have blonde highlights but just in some spots. to save a bit of money, i was thinking about getting hair dye at a store and doing it myself. should i? i was thinking about like target, but i also could go to a sally's beauty supply or another store for beauticians. would it come out right? and if i decided to go back to my hair stylist would it make it any harder for her to do my hair? thanks.
